I was shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Robin Williams. Not only because we lost a human being who made a mark on the world, but we lost him because of a mental illness. At Williams' first rehearsal, Henry Winkler said he "realized I was in the presence of greatness." The subject of mental illness and suicide are very close to my heart. Preventing my son from taking his own life was a daily struggle in our household. It is something I worry about often. I understand when someone is in the depths of despair that ending it all seems appealing. I have heard my own son say, "I can't do this anymore, I just want it to be over." But no one knows what is around the corner and what the next event in life will bring. If you or a loved one is feeling suicidal please get help. The websites below give excellent information on suicide prevention and help. http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ |
Remember "laughter is the best medicine." Robin Williams, you will be missed.
